1. Make the Filling
Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat.
Add the onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until soft.
Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
Stir in the ground beef, break it apart, and cook until browned (6–8 min).
Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder or tomato paste.
Drain excess fat if needed, then let the mixture cool slightly.
Add chopped bacon, some of the cheese, and pickles/green peppers if using. Mix well.
2. Prepare the Dough
Roll out the dough into a rectangle if needed.
In the center, create a long strip where the filling will go.
Cut diagonal strips on both sides of the dough to braid later.
Add the beef mixture in the middle and top with extra cheese.
Fold the strips over the filling alternately to create a braid.
3. Bake
Transfer the braid to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Brush with the egg wash.
Sprinkle sesame seeds and extra bacon on top if you want.
Bake at 200°C (400°F) for 20–25 minutes, or until golden and crisp.
4. Cheese Dip (Optional)
Melt cheddar with milk and butter over low heat, stirring until smooth.
Season with paprika and pepper.
Tips
Let the filling cool before adding it to the dough so it doesn’t get soggy.
You can prepare the filling a day ahead.
Swap bacon for cooked sausage, mushrooms, or keep it simple with only beef and cheese.
