👩🍳 Instructions
-
Peel & boil the potatoes in salted water until fork-tender (about 15–20 minutes).
-
Drain well and return them to the hot pot for 1 minute to remove excess moisture.
-
Mash while hot using a potato masher (never a blender—trust Grandma).
-
Add butter first and let it melt completely.
-
Slowly pour in warm milk, mashing until creamy and smooth.
-
Season with salt and pepper. Add sour cream or cream cheese if using.
-
Taste. Adjust. Add more butter if needed (always correct).
💡 Grandma’s Tips
-
Always use warm milk, never cold—it keeps the potatoes fluffy.
-
Don’t overmix or they’ll turn gluey.
-
Finish with a pat of butter on top before serving. No exceptions.
🍽 Perfect With
Roast chicken, meatloaf, gravy, or just eaten straight from the bowl when no one’s looking.
