Grandma’s Mashed Potatoes

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Peel & boil the potatoes in salted water until fork-tender (about 15–20 minutes).

  2. Drain well and return them to the hot pot for 1 minute to remove excess moisture.

  3. Mash while hot using a potato masher (never a blender—trust Grandma).

  4. Add butter first and let it melt completely.

  5. Slowly pour in warm milk, mashing until creamy and smooth.

  6. Season with salt and pepper. Add sour cream or cream cheese if using.

  7. Taste. Adjust. Add more butter if needed (always correct).

💡 Grandma’s Tips

  • Always use warm milk, never cold—it keeps the potatoes fluffy.

  • Don’t overmix or they’ll turn gluey.

  • Finish with a pat of butter on top before serving. No exceptions.

🍽 Perfect With

Roast chicken, meatloaf, gravy, or just eaten straight from the bowl when no one’s looking.
